Since its inception, RC has been a serious and concerned local and global citizen.  Stephen Cottone has served on  the board of directors of Historic Yellow Springs  for eleven years and was elected President of the board in October of 2007.  At Yellow Springs, Stephen has worked to protect and preserve hundreds of  acres of open space,  a section of the Pikering Creek and the eleven historic buildings that make up this 18th century village.  Stephen also serves on the board of  Hope Springs Equestrian Therapy, a non profit in Chester Springs, PA that provides equestrian therapy to the disabled.  Jay Cottone served on the board at Achievability a non profit that provides housing and support services to single mothers in need.  RC has been honored for its donations to the YMCA, supports numerous local and national non-profits and sponsors youth sports teams throughout the Philadelphia suburbs.

Consistent with this culture of  community service and civic responsibility is accepting accountability for our environment.  At the end of 2007, RC completed the first LEED gold certified renovation project in East Whiteland Township, PA.  Jay and Stephen Cottone have completed GREEN ADVANTAGE training and RC is committed to training all of its employees in sustainable building practices.  Before the end of 2008 all RC’s project managers and senior superintendents will be Green Advantage certified while the RC partners work towards LEED AR certification.  RC is a member of the US GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL and the Delaware Valley Green Building Council.

Even if LEED certification of your project is unrealistic, there are many things that you can do to improve the environmental impact of your project.   RC recycles debris created on all of their projects, uses recycled (carpet, drywall acoustical ceilings and steels studs to name a few) and low VOC (paint, caulk, flooring and wall covering adhesives, etc..) materials.  RC can also provide GREEN options for your project that you may not have thought of.   Auto flushing toilets, “hands free” faucets, motion sensing light switching, ENERGY STAR appliances, fluorescent lighting, energy efficient light ballasts,  high performance insulation and HVAC equipment, reflective roofing materials.  All these choices not only are the right thing to do, but will save you money in the long run.

Talk to us about your GREEN project today, we’re excited about sustainable building, or talk to us about how we can help you to make your standard project  more GREEN.  You’ll feel good about it, your clients will respect you for it and in the long run you’ll save money while saving our planet.
